New social innovation competition launched
Today, a new Social Innovation Competition was launched by the European Commission in memory of Diogo Vasconcelos. The competition was announced by President José Manuel Durão Barroso at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon.
Diogo was a remarkable man. He worked tirelessly and energetically on issues which he cared deeply about and his energy and enthusiasm were completely infectious. For Diogo, anything and everything was possible and he always wanted us to be more ambitious about what we could achieve. He had faith in people; he believed that the solutions to today’s most pressing challenges could be found by unleashing people’s imagination and creativity. And this is what the social innovation competition seeks to do.
The prize brings together two of Diogo’s greatest passions: social innovation and entrepreneurship. It will be awarded to people, projects or organisations that develop innovative solutions to tackling unemployment. This includes solutions that will unlock or tap into people’s talents, create or shape new markets or enable people to start and grow successful new businesses. For more information, see here.
